What to look for on an Authentic large Gucci Horsebit Hobo bag??

March 31, 2010 | In: women handbags

Alright, for a while my wife has been giving me the hint that she wants the Large Gucci Hosrsebit Hobo bag in brown canvas with the white leather trim. I’ve only bought her 2 designer bags (she usually buys her own), which have been purchased at Neiman Marcus. Well, when I went earlier in the year to ask for this bag, they didn’t have any in stock at that particular store but what really caught me off guard was the price tag (not sure why, but it did). I’m not shedding that kind of money $900+ but am wanting to get her one though.

So I’ve decided to go ahead and get her one, and I’ve searched some websites as well as Ebay. My question is, do any of you ladies own one of these or know exactly what questions I need to ask or details I need to look for when purchasing this bag. Can you tell me the differences between the authentic and imitation ones. Problem is, my wife knows how to tell.

So to avoid all the drama, any information or links are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

#1 Ask if it is authentic or replica. If the seller answers authentic, ask him how he can prove it. If he can’t prove it via invoice from an authorized distributor, do not pay full price. Offer alot less since it is probably a replica or if it is real, there is no proof therefore it makes the value less. Also, make sure you can return it just in case it is bad quality , consider using an escrow company .

I think your best bet is Ebay. If you find the bag that your wife wants only purchase the bag if there is Authenticity cards included with the auction. A lot of times people will include the dust bag/sleeper bag. I have a couple of authentic gucci’s myself and the dust bags are brown with gold lettering. The way to compare tiny details is to find the bag off of Gucci.com and then compare those pictures with the ones off of Ebay. Don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions to the seller or ask for more pictures. The worst thing you could do would be to buy a fake bag for her!

My other bit of advice is to get some matching horsebit sunglasses for her to match the new bag. You will be a god!
